Pohnpei and Ant Atoll Adventures
||Mar 10 - Mar 19, 2016
A repeat of 164. We begin and end this one is miraculous Pohnpei, one of the most fabulous places we found during the Best Odyssey Expedition. Pohnpei and nearby Ant atoll are known for their virgin reef and pristine waters, visibility up to 200+ ft. and thriving hard coral society. Sadly this area has been heavily fished by foreign interests in the past decade and much of the pelagic species have been decimated, but Pohnpei remains alive and truly special. You can swim with giant Pacific Manta rays daily; explore the amazing Nan Madol ruins by SUP; surf one of the best waves on Earth; kite over endless lagoons; and a short sail to nearby Ant Atoll may uncover among other things unexploded ordinance from the second world war! There's adventure at every turn on Pohnpei!
From Lonely Planet: "The Federated States of Micronesia sits in the heart of the Caroline Islands Archipelago, a vast seascape that extends from Palau in the west to Kiribati in the east. Situated within a rich center of biodiversity at the convergence of the major currents of the Indian Ocean, the Philippine Sea and the great Pacific Ocean, it is home to the world's greatest coral reefs and the best pelagic fisheries remaining in the world today.
Here's a little taste of what we find the last time through:
