The Best Odyssey - An Ocean Odyssey
Leeward Society Islands (Tahaa, Bora, Maupiti)

Leeward Society Islands (Tahaa, Bora, Maupiti)

Trip Ports of Call Dates Days
140 Raiatea, Maupiti (maybe) Oct 3 - Oct 13, 2014 10
A repeat of the last, which just ever so slightly less wind consistencty- but only just. If you get this trip consider yourself the second luckiest person in the world. This itinerary is pretty hard to beat. Tahaa and Raiatea have insanely good waves and flatwater- insane. Then a lovely short downwind sail to Bora-Bora, where you'll see the blue lagoon in the clouds before you actually see the island- yes, it's THAT color. The last time we sailed into Bora there were three Humpback whales cavorting right inside the pass. I can't promise that this time around, but it is a pretty awesome island to behold. Those in for a tough hike MUST go to the top on a clear day- it's a sight you will never forget. I for one find Bora-Bora a little over the top with the endless ritzy cabanas over the lagoons and speed boats ripping around taking stunned honeymooners (not sure if "stunned" because of their wedding bliss, or because of the rapid removal of all funds from their bank account!) and was not enchanted with the island as I'm sure some are, but it's still awesome to see- especially from the decks of Discovery.

But your Captain will be under orders to keep things moving along. Why you ask? Why move on from Bora-Bora? Your next stop on this dream itinerary is the dream part- the dream you didn't even know you had. You'll quickly forget why you wanted to see Bora in the first place. All the beauty, in fact- MORE of the beauty, and zero touristy baloney. Trust me, it is an absurdly beautiful place. You'll be shaking your head for the rest of the trip, trying to get your brain to believe what your eyes are telling you. Go on, give it a whirl.

Here's a little taste: "Entering Never Never Land." And a couple articles: Pacific Paradise and Two Different Worlds.

Getting there: International flight to Papeete, Tahiti (PPT) on Air Tahiti Nui, then domestic on Air Tahiti to Raiatea RT.
